for the longest week ever, it had to be the week before chinese new year. damnit man, we're all like having 5 hours of sleep each day. plus, not to mention the stupid navigation exercises we had to do..
i've finally realized. field camp was still alright... it was navigation that almost killed us. imagine having to trash through the jungles.. and the forest.. okay. remember those days back in secondary school where we had our cross-country runs at macritchie reservoir? and beside the tracks that we ran, all you see were bushes and trees and bushes and more trees and plants and vegetation.... that's our playground for 3 days.
we can't use parangs to bash through cuz its THE PROPERTY OF THE NE PARKS. or so i was told. so with our bare hands (actually we wore gloves to protect our palms), a compass, a map, a pacer and a protractor, in we go.
if you think in the day was bad enough... at night it was totally horrible. the first night, we had our sergeant bring us aroud the area. in the end, we got ourselves stuck in the swamps. the fucking swamps! wth man....! even our sergeant was cursing and swearing (partly at us, cuz we did the navigation as we had to learn). when we eventually got out, our boots+lower part of our pants were stained with mud. i pity the bus-driver cuz he had to clean up after we kinda stained his bus..
not to mention we had to lug this 11 kg signal set around.. of course each of us took turns to carry it. walking on the track with that on our backs was no big feat but having to climb slopes and knolls (small hills) definitely got us panting and cursing and swearing. OH i dunno if this's superstitious but cursing and swearing in the jungles will get you nowhere.. haha! my sergeant told us to respect the nature. i didn't curse that much but when we navigate on our own for the 2nd time, we were pretty much blessed with easy checkpoints...
so its gonna be more trainings and trainings till Valentine's Day, which coincidentally is our graduation day. after that we'll get our postings. whether its gonna be Armour, Artillery, Signals, Infantry (the much dreaded ASLC- even more outfields! yucks!), Guards and so on.
today was pretty fucked up. as we had our navigation till the night yesterday, it was too late for us to book out. so we booked out this morning at 6am. and later i'm gonna book in at 9. its really WHAT THE FUCK in caps locks. we have something on tml (can't really dish out all our training details) thus the fucked up booking in and out.
so far. SISPEC has taught me alot of military things. things i thought looked easy but its actually hard when you get down to it. and fun things. weapons. this. that.
i know, my blog posts now are filled with super-boring army stuffs and stories. my weekends are usually confined to 2 days, sats and sundays. that sucks. i sleep at home. trying to be like a PIG.
OH chinese new year just passed. HUAT AH! i had a good rest for the 4 days. went to visit my elders and relatives. but its only my dad's side as i can't take overseas leave to go malayis to visit my mom's side. angpow-wise, i'm foreseeing a decline due to the reccession. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
ahh well. at least i get to eat GOOD food.
i need to fix myself a new computer soon. cuz my current one is almost 4 years old. i can't play games for shit. i'm stuck with old games. =( but its kind of a dilemma as i'm in camp hence i don't use the com really often. i'm looking at how it goes, after i get posted to a unit then i'll see if there's reasonable time to use the com. my current com seems stable now. but actually i've changed alot of spare parts inside. damn......
and maybe a new handphone... if my own piggy bank can afford. heh.
well. february is just around the corner. its quite fast, from the day i entered SISPEC on 22nd december. and i got to know my section mates. wacky bunch of people. haha.
i'm still gonna be sleep-deprived for the next 2 weeks though.
time to prepare for booking-in.

i'm back from my 4 days field camp. rather interesting, i must say.
and my sergeant's pretty fucked up. LOL.
compared to our BMT's field camp, SISPEC field camp might be more of a, say, holiday boot camp. while in BMT's one we're being fucked upside down, left right, in any hole they can find, in SISPEC's field camp life isn't that bad.
just don't kena the section commander or the section 2IC. life won't be peaceful...
and those 2 appointments are just the ones i kena -_-
okay, so all these rubbish aside, the field camp wasn't that bad.
next week is my 5th week in SISPEC's BSLC course. so far, so good. my bunkmates are easy to get along. been lying low for the past few weeks. just so that i won't kena anymore appointments HAHA!
oh yeah. i have guard duty to perform before CNY. that sucks.
and i sprained my ankle on the last day of field camp. that sucks too.
life here is very much fast-paced; sometimes without knowing it, its time for lunch. then after awhile, its dinner-time.
sometimes i wonder to myself, why am i stuck in SISPEC. haha. its like, BMT is so much more interesting and fun? maybe its the bonding we had back then, where we all got fucked together and endured all the shit.
now in SISPEC all those punishments are pretty much rare as they expect us to behave like future commanders.
if i were to recall my early NS life, i'm pretty much sure that i'll talk about my life as a recruit.
anyways! blogging now has been very, military-based? weekends lately has been confined to coming home on saturday mornings and washing clothes+taking naps. besides with a sprained ankle, which has largely healed, i'm supposed to rest more as i'm having navigation lessons next week.
ARGH see anything i type or blog HAS to relate to the army. gahhh.
chinese new year is around the corner. hopefully for the chinese calender 2009 will be a better year? even though with all these shit about fucked-up economy.... people are saying things aren't going to change for the better in the near future so...

alright. goodnight guys.

happy new year guys!
its 2009 now. haha.
the economy sucks. i'm not sure if its a blessing in disguise, but i find myself lucky to have a "iron bowl rice" for the next 1 year and 9months or so? yes, the SAF is gonna be paying me my pay for the next phase of my army life. so its sort of like a secure job?
unless i do some stunt and get myself into trouble.
first day of 2009. i woke up have breakfast blah blah...
oh dear, i'm gonna be booking in later! =(
hopefully 2009 is gonna be better. i don't know for you, but 2008 hasn't been a pleasant year for me.
let's see....
1st quarter of 08. i was wrapping up my studies at Singapore Polytechnic. obtained the best GPA of my 6 semesters in SP. but overall GPA might or might not get me into a university. that's okay, i can still go to work. (but given the economy now.. not looking good for the next 2 years or so...)
found my first office job in pricewaterhousecoopers. a very nice working environment with nice people.
attended my first graduation ceremony. lol. i graduated twice, once from secondary sch and once from poly but the secondary school's ceremony was LIKE SHIT ahahahaha.
2nd quarter.. hmm. was mostly work. and went for a holiday with mini, kelvin, ek and benji to tioman island where SOMETHING STUPID happened heh heh i guess only the few of us know..
met this amazing girl from work. was nothing like before. unfortunately she's leaving overseas. i wish her all the best. she's a strong girl.
3rd quarter. enlistment into national service! this was the most memorable part of 2008 as my life was turned upside down and inside out. i had to change from being a civilian who had almost total freedom in whatever he does to a soldier who had to take commands from the top and train physically and mentally.
of course, i trained and served with some of the best guys from BMTC 1 J Coy Platoon 1 Section 3 =D
4th quarter. HELL YEAH NO MORE P-PLATE! lol. but i've no car at home =( also i was posted to a unit called SISPEC where we trained to be the backbone of the SAF by becoming a Specialist of the rank 3RD SGT blah blah blah...... and the bottom line is that our training just got tougher.
pretty much sums up 2008.
of course, there were many times of unhappiness and moments of despair but luckily i've pulled through.
so. hopefully 2009 will be a better year and everyone stay healthy.
AND PARTY ON!
